The new chairperson of the Sigatoka Town Council, Adish Naidu, has revealed plans to improve the town.
This includes the construction of a handicraft centre and two sets of public conveniences, along with improving the town’s cleanliness and fixing road issues.
“There are several plans,” Mr Naidu said.
“The special administrators will get together very soon to see how we can prioritise them.”
Mr Naidu said Sigatoka was located on the Queen’s Highway and it needed to live up to that reputation to draw people to spend time in the town.
He said with the many complaints on parking issues, a meeting with the Fiji Roads Authority has been scheduled with the hopes of addressing this.
Mr Naidu also clarified the differences between the roles of the chairperson and special administrators.
“There is no difference between the special administrators and the chair,” he said.
“Things are done collectively with the close collaboration of the special administrators.”
He said everything would be done according to the Local Government Act.
