Nagata eyes third heavyweight fight with Ledua

NAVOSA fighter Alipate Nagata has called for a third heavyweight challenge against Iobe Ledua.

Draiba villager Nagata and Ledua have fought two battles and both recorded a win each.

With heavyweight boxing making a return slowly, Nagata, 39, feels it is the right time for “Bad Blood 3”.

“I need some fights because I want to challenge for the Fiji heavyweight title,” said the True Blue Hotel security guard.

“I want to meet him again. I got a few more years left in boxing. I want to aim for the title because there is some competition in heavyweight now.”

Nagata and Ledua last met in 2011. Ledua won by split points decision at Prince Charles Park. The pair also met in 2010 at the same venue with Nagata securing a win by majority decision.

Nagata has a record of two wins, three losses and a draw. His last fight against Napoleon Taumoepeau in 2013 was a loss by knockout.

“I want a shot at the title especially against Napoleon. I did not prepare nicely for the last fight,” he said.

Ledua’s record on boxrec.com includes 12 wins, 14 losses and two draws. Nagata said he was planning to assemble a team of Navosa boxers in Sigatoka this year.

“There are some good boxers up there. They have potential,” he said.

“Plenty boxers are training up there. This year we want to build a team of boxers.

“I want to bring them down here. My house is in Olosara and we want to train them from here because in town we have facilities like the gym.”

Nagata is the older brother of Eroni Vaqewa, who was impressive in his last fight against Lepani Lavetia.
