Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s captain Rusila Nagasau is one of the nominees for the Fiji Tattslotto Sportswoman of the Year award at the Fiji Sports Awards.

The awards night is scheduled to take place this Saturday at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

Speaking to The Fiji Times, Nagasau said she was grateful to her family and Fiji Rugby for supporting her achievements.

“Honestly, it’s not about me but about my country and family,” she said.

“Being a senior member in the team, I always look up to many sportswomen not only in Fiji but around the world, and for me discipline is the most important thing.

“I always emphasise to the Fijiana players while representing our country overseas the importance of being good ambassadors.”

Nagasau said rugby in Fiji was always known to be men’s game.

“But for me personally, it’s not about men dominating the sport, if they can do it we women can also do the same.

“To be a role model is something that challenges me every single day to showcase the talent I have and to push women here in Fiji whether in sports or in leadership roles.”

She said preparations had been going well for the Fijiana 7s team in the lead up to the remaining HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournaments.

“The last two we have right now is Hong Kong and Toulouse and it is something we are really looking forward to.

“We are just trying to get things right especially on and off the field and trying to get our set piece right with line out and scrum and working together as a team.

“That is something we will be focusing on this week in trying to get the right mindset and to be disciplined.”
