Nadroga names France-based Yato in 2016 squad

THE all-conquering Nadroga Stallions are hoping to field Flying Fijians breakdown specialist Peceli Yato in a couple of Skipper Cup matches this season.

Clermont, France based Yato has been included in a powerful 87-member squad announced by NRU.

“They normally have their break in June and return to France in July. He may be able to play one-two games,” NRU president Tiko Matawalu said.

Yato, 23 has played six international Tests for the Flying Fijians.

Vodafone national sevens stars Savenaca Rawaca, Jasa Veremalua, Viliame Mata and Apisai Domolailai were named in the squad as well but Amenoni Nasilasila and Alivereti Veitokani were not included.

Matawalu said Nasilasila and Veitokani, who are in New Zealand for the Wellington Sevens, were part of the Stallions squad.

“Any of our players in the national teams are also part of our squad. We just missed them out because of typing error.”

He said national duty was the priority of Nadroga’s sevens players Veremalua, Rawaca, Mata, Domolailai, Nasilasila and Veitokani.

“This all depends on (coach) Ben Ryan if he would release them but we respect national call.”

Nadroga has been winning the Skipper Cup (Digicel Cup before) since 2011. The westerners have not surrendered the coveted Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy since 2013.

The champion Stallions are sponsored by Tappoo, Sigatoka Electric, Hyperchem Sigatoka, Queensland Laptop and Services Ltd, Coastline Transport, Maui Bay, Outrigger, Shangri La Fijian Resort, Gecko Trucking Ltd, and Coastal Rental.

The following players are to attend a fitness test at Lawaqa Park high performance unit gym from 9am.
