SODELPA members at the Special General Meeting last weekend – SODELPA

MEMBERS of the SODELPA Nadroga branch are claiming the special general meeting (SGM) held by the party on October 24 was unconstitutional.

SODELPA vice-president Ratu Vereniki Nalio is claiming party administrators did not inform them of the SGM.

Ratu Vereniki is one of two vice-presidents of the party that work closely with current president Ratu Filimoni Soqeta.

“We were also not informed of the reason for the special general meeting,” he said.

“When we reached out to the head office and the general secretary, we were not given any response or explanation.”

SODELPA Nadroga branch president Seru Batibasaga said he has not heard from the party’s main office about their complaint.

“I am unhappy with the general secretary for not coming back to me and for not answering our calls,” he said.

“We are still waiting for them to explain why they went ahead with the meeting.”

He reiterated that the branch and its members would stand by Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka.

Mr Gavoka says he was devastated by the announcement SODELPA would not support the Constitution Amendment Bill 32 and called on party leader Aseri Radrodro, president Ratu Filimoni and other senior members to rethink their stand on the Constitutional Amendment Bill 32.

Questions sent to party leader Mr Radrodro on the concerns raised by Mr Nalio and Mr Batibasaga remained unanswered when this edition went to press.
