The Nadroga Rugby Union (NRU) is looking at 2021 as a redemption season.

After returning home empty-handed last year, union president Tiko Matawalu is putting other provincial union on notice.

“We don’t want a repeat of what happened last season,” Matawalu said.

The NRU had a disappointing 2020 season because it could not regain the Skipper Cup.

They lost the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy to Namosi in the second double-header 8-15 at home.

It started the season well with a 15 – 13 win against Suva, but lost to Naitasiri 6-19 in round four, Suva 32-26 in round eight, Namosi 15-6 for the second time, and 20-17 to Naitasiri in the Skipper Cup semi-finals at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

“A lot has been identified from our shortfalls last year, he said.

“Our coaching staff and committee are working round-the-clock to get everything in place.

“We have no choice, but to work hard and get things right.

“We will be back strongly this year,” Matawalu said.
