Nadro without mentor

BLK Nadroga Stallions will be without their inspirational mentor Esala Nauga in this weekend’s HFC Bank Farebrother trophy encounter against Northland.

Nauga alongside his trainer Tikiko Namaua, super boot Tikilaci Vuibau, prop Ratu Penijiamini Makutu and lock forward Manoa Tamaya departed with the Army rugby team in their England rugby tour.

Former national and Auckland Blues rep Vula Maimuri will team up with backline coach Jonetani Waqa and Samu Vunaki to cover for Nauga against Northland.

Team manager Iliavi Kato said the absence of their mentor, trainer and players would not affect the team’s campaign.

“We have capable hands that will cover for Nauga likewise for the players that will cover for Vuibau, Tamaya and Makutu,” he said.

“The team’s preparation will not be affected and the side is looking forward to another tough Farebrother battle this weekend.

“Our preparation is normal like all other teams and we are focusing on our game instead of focussing on the challenging teams.”

Kato said the Stallions respected Northland and would give their best to defend the Holy Grail of Fiji Rugby.

“We know that Northland will want to wrestle the title away from us just like all other challengers and we expect a tough encounter from them.

“The boys are geared up for the challenge and they are well aware of what the trophy means to them.”

Kato has called on the Nadroga fans and the people of the Western Division to support the Stallions.

The match will be held at Lawaqa Park on Saturday at 3pm.
