The Nadi football under-16 side got off to a positive start in the opening round of the Digicel Fiji U16 Boys Youth League Western Zone held at the Fiji FA academy grounds in Ba last Saturday.

The side was held to a 2-all draw after Rakiraki came from behind to equalise the match in the second spell.

Goals from Rynal Naicker and Tanzil Mohammed saw the Jetsetters lead 2-1 at the break.

“I am really proud of the efforts of the boys because our training had been affected due to ground availability and time factor,” said Nadi coach Hitesh Goundar.

“I was actually surprised with the result because it is the first year for all of them to represent a district team and I am certain they have a bright future ahead of them.”

Goundar acknowledged the parents for their support, especially the parents of two Savusavu Primary School students in his team, as the school is situated in the interior of Nadi.

“I am looking forward to the competition as it rolls on.”

Six teams – Nadi, Rakiraki, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua and Nadroga – are part of the competition’s Western Zone.
