Nadi retains Tui Vuda Trophy

NADI successfully defended the Tui Vuda trophy defeating Lautoka 29-9 at Churchill Park yesterday.

High after their win over the Outrigger on the Lagoon Nadroga last weekend, the Iliesa Tanivula-coached side displayed structured rugby to shatter Lautoka’s hope of winning the title.

Led by inspirational forward and former Flying Fijian Kelepi Ketedromo, the Jetsetters bombarded their opposition defensive line with big hits and some poerful breaking runs.

Star fullback Venisemani Ratubalavu played a grand game for the jetsetters scoring 14 points from his boots.

Lautoka tried their best to contain Nadi’s wave of attack but to no avail as the jetsetters scored three unanswered tries.

The host managed to score their points through Sireli Satala’s three penalties.

Nadi manager Noa Neivalu said he was pleased with his team performance despite fielding new faces.

He said the side was still building their combination as they prepared for the Skipper Tuna rugby competition.

“We fielded many new boys and I am satisfied with their performance,” said Naivalu.

“This team is building up for the provincial competition and I am glad the boys have won two games so far.

“We still need improvements in most areas and the panel of coaches will rectify these weaknesses during training.”

He said the side still had one more week to prepare before facing Tailevu in the opening round of competition.
