McDonald’s Nadi has secured top spot on the Skipper Cup points table in a commanding fashion thrashing FMF Rewa 62-3 at Prince Charles Park yesterday.
The emphatic victory also earned Nadi a bonus point as the side turns its attention to next week’s quarter-final.
Nadi vice-captain Rafaele Tunidau said the team was pleased to finish the regular season on a high note.
“Great effort from the boys, we wanted to finish our last game on a high as we prepare for the quarter-final next week.
“I know everyone looks forward to the quarter-final and we will prepare well,” Tunidau said.
Nadi dominated possession in the first half, scoring four tries through Mosese Tamani, Viliame Bote, Etuate Qalibau and Josh Uluibau.
Tunidau added three successful conversions to help Nadi establish a 26-3 lead at half-time.
Rewa managed only a penalty through Apenisa Deve as Nadi controlled the opening half.
The home side continued its dominance after the break, crossing the tryline six more times to complete a convincing victory.
Winger Etuate Qalibau stole the spotlight with a hat-trick in the second half, adding to his earlier try to finish with four tries for the match.
Viliame Vibote, Asalusi Nagicu and Isaac Lutumailagi also scored tries as Nadi’s attacking power proved too much for Rewa.
Tunidau added three conversions in the second half to help the home side seal the 62-3 victory.
With the regular season now completed, Nadi will look to carry its winning momentum into next week’s quarter-final as the team begins preparations for the knockout stage.
