Nadi club receives support

NADI-BASED Westfield Dragons Rugby Club received a major boost with Asia Pacific Dragons coming on board as its sponsor for overseas tours and player recruitment drives.

Yesterday Asia Pacific Dragons gave the club a rugby kit which includes uniforms, t/shirts, tackle bags and hit shields.

Players from the Westfield Dragons were part of the Asia Pacific Dragons team coached by Tana Umaga and Justin Marshall which won the Hong Kong 10s tournament this year.

Westfield Dragons president Ponijese Lou said Asia Pacific Dragons would be subsidising the accommodation and transportation costs for their team when on overseas tours.

Lou said Asia Pacific Dragons would also look after the overseas contracts for its players.

“We have entered into a healthy partnership with Asia Pacific Dragons,” he said.

“When on tour, our team will be made up of 80 per cent local boys and 20 per cent overseas players.

“We are grateful to Jon Phelps the general manager of Asia Pacific Dragons for his support. Locally the team is sponsored by Tokatoka Resort.”

Meanwhile the Westfield Dragons & Coral Coast 7s qualification tournament will be held at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on December 19.
