Nadi airport projects unveiled

Eighteen projects are in the pipeline as part of the Nadi International Airport Master Plan 2024-2033, Fiji Airport has revealed.

They include upgrading existing facilities and infrastructure and new developments such as new gates, domestic terminal, fire-fighting trucks, car park and new aerobridges to replace the existing passenger boarding tunnels.

Fiji Airports Ltd CEO Mesake Nawari said the master plan is designed to accommodate future growth in passenger and cargo traffic, and aligned with the Government’s ambition to become the region’s leading aviation hub.

The master plan also includes the implementation of the fleet replacement plan with delivery of the first lot of electrical vehicles for Nadi airport in the second half of this year.

Below are the projects with implementation timelines ranging from this year to 2030:

  • Departure lounge extension;,
  • Additional offgate aprons;
  • Gates 1-3 relocation and multiple aircraft ramp system for gate 2;
  • New gates 10-11;
  • Mill and fill payment maintenance works;
  • Domestic aprons expansion;
  • New domestic terminal
  • Transit hotel, commercial and retail building and new car park;
  • sting Nadi International Airport Airside Master Plan;
  • Landslide Master Plan to guide Commercial department with landside development;
  • Photovoltaic solar — ground mount array solar farm;
  • Six new aerobridges;
  • Computerised tomography scan (CTS) technology
  • Common use self-service and terminal equipment and flight information display system;
  • Communication, navigation and surveillance systems upgrade;
  • Improve aviation rescue and firefighting services; and
  • Operating the Fiji Airports Aviation Training Academy.

Mr Nawari said the wholly-owned government commercial company has been diligently managing Fiji’s 15 airports — the Fiji Airports-owned Nadi International airport and 14 other domestic airports managed on behalf of the Government.
