The organiers of the 35th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s plan to put smiles on faces of the sporting public by creating an electrifying sporting atmosphere during the three-day event this week.
The Nawaka 7s Festival will not only feature rugby, but volleyball and netball as well.
Nawaka Rugby Club president Eparama Sailo said the people of Nadi had endured a lot during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially with job losses because of the border restrictions which greatly affected the tourism industry.
Sailo said the theme for this year’s festival was “Unity in Sports” which would bring people of all walks of life together at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
“We expect an overwhelming response from the sporting public since this is the first major 7s tournament to be held in Nadi after a long time,” he said.
“Our aim is to try to get people together during this COVID-19 pandemic. There are a lot of unemployment, especially in Nadi, so it is just to put back the smiles on the faces of the people by offering them some exciting matches during the festival.
“Kombat Uluinakau Babas, Wardens, Veilomani Combo, Midfield Naicula Young Boys, Foodking Dratabu, Police White, Restoration Rugby Academy and Police Blue are some of the top seeds in the tournament.”
Sailo said registration was closed last weekend and they were finalising the draws and fixtures.
The Nawaka 7s Festival will be held from March 3-5. The annual event has produced a lot of Fiji rugby reps.
