The Nadali rugby team clinched a historic victory in the Tailevu Rugby club competition, defeating the Forces Training Group team 26-0 to win the prestigious Vanua Shield.
This triumph marked their first win in 25 years, bringing immense joy to both the team and its fans.
The match, held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori, attracted a large crowd of passionate supporters who cheered on their teams.
Captain Mosese Gavidi praised his teammates for their dedication and commitment to the game plan, leading to their well-deserved win.
“We had a well-thought-out game plan, and I commend the boys for steadfastly adhering to it. This win is a momentous achievement for us, one that has been a long time coming,” said Gavidi.
The significance of reclaiming the Vanua Shield after a quarter of a century was not lost on Gavidi, who exuded pride in the team’s accomplishment.
“It has been 25 years since we last held the Vanua Shield, so bringing it home after this lengthy period is incredibly satisfying, and I am immensely proud of the boys for their dedication and hard work.
The Nadali team set the tone for the match by starting strongly in the first half, and Gavidi’s halftime encouragement spurred them on to maintain their defensive prowess through the second half.
Despite facing a formidable opponent in the Army team, the Nadali squad remained resolute and emerged victorious. “Army put up a commendable fight, and we are pleased with the overall outcome,” Gavidi acknowledged.
As celebrations ensued in the wake of their hard-earned win, Gavidi viewed the victory as a fitting early Christmas gift for the team.
Looking ahead, he expressed optimism for the team’s future growth and emphasised the importance of returning stronger in the forthcoming year.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the players for their unwavering hard work and dedication throughout the year, as well as to our families for their steadfast support.”
