NABUA Maroons stunned Police Blue in round eight of the of the FMF Suva Rugby Escott Shield competition on Saturday.

The match which also served as the final challenge for the Esala Teleni Shield saw Nabua come out victorious 22-17 at the USP Grounds in Laucala Bay, Suva.

It means that Nabua will get to keep the highly-contested Esala Teleni Shield for the remainder of the season.

“Just like all the games we’ve played this year, we were thoroughly prepared for the match against Police yesterday (Saturday). We knew we were going to battling Police in the last challenge so we had to prepare ourselves accordingly in the past two weeks,” head coach Timoci Malumu said.

“The team celebrated the outcome of the game because the boys have worked hard before and during the game to come away with that result. In rugby we all want to come out as winners and the boys did all they could to become just that at the end of the match.”

Flying Fijians and Fijian Drua scrumhalf Simione Kuruvoli played for Nabua, inspiring the next generation on the sidelines with his talent.

“We are grateful for Simi for showing his interest to play for Nabua. The players learned so much from him in just that one game, his presence also boosted the morale of the others in the team,” Malumu added.

The match also served as Nabua’s build-up to the Escott Shield quarter-finals this weekend.
