Former Energy Fiji Ltd (EFL) chief executive officer Rokoseru Nabalarua has been appointed as its new board chair.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad told The Fiji Times Mr Nabalarua replaces incumbent chair Daksesh Patel, who has stepped down from his position because of personal and other professional commitments.

“Daksesh Patel remains on the board as a member to help in the transition and all other board members will remain,” Mr Prasad said.

“The chairman resigned because of his other commitments. But he’s agreed to stay on the board until his term ends and, in the meantime, we have appointed Rokoseru Nabalarua as chair of the board.

“Government has nominated him on the board, but the board, as per the Company’s Act is supposed to appoint the chair and all government appointed members have supported his chairmanship, so he’s now the chairman of the EFL board.”

Mr Nabalarua is no stranger to EFL and the energy sector, having served as the company’s chief executive officer from January 2004 to December 2007.

He is the current chief executive officer of Nasinu-based garment manufacturer KOOKAI — Lyndhurst Group.

Meanwhile, Mr Prasad said news floating around on Hasmukh Patel’s removal from his position as EFL CEO was fake.
