THE Northland Tailevu under-16 boys football side found their rhythm in the second half of their Extra U16 Boys Youth League to win 1-0 over Lami yesterday.

The match took place at the Fiji FA Academy grounds in Vatuwaqa, Suva and the blank scoresheet in the second half was filled with a goal from the winning side.

Melvin Singh, the team’s coach, said the boys were told to give their best on the field.

“Today (yesterday), I just told them it’s a win, a draw or a loss. It doesn’t matter, we just give out our best,” Singh recalled.

When the team was still trying to find a way to get ahead of Lami in the first half, he said injuries within the team had left him uncertain.

“First, I was double-minded because some of the boys were carrying injuries but they managed to hold on in the first half,” he said.

And once half-time rolled around, he shared the same message he told them prior to the game.

“I told them in the half-time break, I just told them to just give it their best.

He also emphasised to his side to apply the concepts they had learnt when reviewing matches filmed on video.

“They did it and they were able to score one goal, I’m happy with that.”

He added the team’s performance on the field yesterday had indicated to him the level of strength they possessed.

“What I saw were these young boys who are just 13, 14, 15-years-old, they showed me that they can be more better than they are right now.”

Meanwhile, prior to the Northland Tailevu v Lami match, Suva beat Rewa 3-0.
