The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has called on the Fiji Muslim League to play a greater role in supporting Muslim inmates, particularly those from overseas, who lack family support while incarcerated.

This appeal was made during the League’s Annual General Meeting and Council Meeting held yesterday at Nadi Muslim College.

Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Sevuloni Naucukidi, and Director of Training and Rehabilitation, Superintendent Isireli Dausiga, attended the event as invited guests.

Commissioner Naucukidi highlighted the unique challenges faced by Muslim inmates from abroad.

“Many of these inmates are far from home, with no relatives or community support outside prison walls. This is where the Muslim League can make a real difference,” he said.

He emphasised the effectiveness of faith-based support in rehabilitation, noting that spiritual guidance has helped many inmates positively engage in the reintegration process.

Superintendent Dausiga also delivered a presentation on inmate demographics, noting a steady rise in Indo-Fijian and Muslim inmate numbers over the past decade.

He introduced FCS’s new Five-Year Strategic Development Plan, themed “You Can Only Give What You Have,” which prioritises community partnerships and holistic rehabilitation.
