Murder suspects fronts court

A 35-year-old man accused of causing the death of his one-year-old daughter last week had his matter transferred to the High Court in Suva.

Sairusi Ceinaturaga yesterday made his first appearance before Magistrate Krishan Prasad on a charge of murder, assault, and a count of act with intent to cause grievous harm.

Mr Ceinaturaga is alleged to have slapped his 27-year-old de-facto partner, who was preparing a meal at the time of the offence.

He is also  alleged to have hit his one-year-old daughter with an aluminium cooking spoon and then hit the baby’s face against the wall before throwing her down the mattress.

The accused is then alleged to have seen his three-year-old son playing with his toys, he became angry and proceeded to grab his son and took him to the bedroom. He is alleged to have slapped his son before hitting his head against the wall with visible injuries.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at Vunidakua settlement, Cunningham, Suva on October 17 this year.

Police confirmed more information was gathered that the accused had a history of being abusive.

Since the charges laid against him are indictable offence the case has been transferred to the High Court on November 4 for the first call.

After his matter was called, a huge group of men surrounded the accused before he was transported back to the remand centre.
