FOR Vilisi Misimisi of Vagadra village in Nadroga, watching her daughter Josivini Naihamu shine on the world stage was nothing short of a blessing.

Speaking at Nadi International Airport as the Vodafone Fijiana XV returned home from the Rugby World Cup on Wednesday night, the proud mother could not hide her joy.

“Thank God for selecting Josivini to go and play at the World Cup.

“Before they played Canada in their first game I spoke to her and encouraged her and said the God we are praying to is a big God, he will guide you. I told her not to be scared because God will be with you,” she said.

Despite the excitement, following Naihamu’s matches from their home in Vagadra came with challenges.

“The first two matches that Josivini played we didn’t have a TV set at home in Vagadra village,” Misimisi explained.

“I had to go to another house in the village to watch her. And then the third game against Wales when she scored those two tries, I shouted, I thank God for everything.”

Her daughter’s two tries were crucial in Fiji’s dramatic 28-25 win over Wales a victory that ended their campaign on a high.

“I just thank God for her talent.”

For the mother from Nadroga, Josivini’s journey is a reminder of faith, perseverance, and the power of family support behind every athlete who represents Fiji on the world stage.
