Karalaini Kakaivalu is living every parent’s worst nightmare. The 65-year-old lost her son Jeremaia Sisa Kakaivalu in a tragic accident early Saturday morning when the 25-year-old was on his way home in Koronubu, Ba.
Ms Kakaivalu said she never imagined that she would lose her son too following the death of her daughter to cancer in 2021.
“He always wanted to look after me,” said the grandmother-of-five. “After we lost my daughter, he never wanted to leave our home.”
She said she was devastated by the loss. “As a mother you don’t want to ever go through something like this.
“You don’t want to bury your children.” She said he was a hard worker and took care of his sister’s children.
“After high school, we wanted him to go to university but he said he wanted to work.
“We were in Vanua Levu where he had a farm but after he got a job in Ba, we moved here.
“I wanted him to start his own family while I am still around but he was not interested in that.
“All he wanted to do was take care of me.”
The body of the 25-year-old was found along Koronubu Rd in the early hours of July 22.
According to police, Mr Kakaivalu was believed to have been sitting in the middle of the road when he was hit by an unknown vehicle.
