The Coalition Government will seriously consider giving grants directly to the School Management Association of Fiji to support their work.
This was announced by Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad at the association’s biennial conference in Nausori yesterday.
He said their goal was to strengthen and partner with the association.
“To that end, I can promise you that we will seriously consider your proposal to provide grants to the school management association so that you can effectively organise and function as a group, share knowledge and bring together the management committees around the country,” he said.
“You are not just caretakers and administrators, all of you are leaders in your community.
“All of you are influencers. All of you can make a significant difference to the quality of education of our children, teachers alone cannot do that.
“Parents, involvement of the school management in the daily education activities of your children, is going to help us address some of the fundamental problems that we have, particularly the scourge of drugs in our school.”
Prof Prasad also urged all managers to play an active role in the management of the schools and strengthen parent teacher associations as well as school management and teacher engagement.
“These are very, very important and fundamental aspects that will help our teachers, our students and our parents to participate.”
