OPPOSITION MP Jone Usamate says Government institutions have suffered over the past few decades.
He told Parliament that when the integrity of institutions was lost, the impact was going to be generational.
“We have seen the impact on the military, how it has become fragmented,” Mr Naupoto said.
“The institution of the civil service.
“The civil service now, we treat it sometimes like a political thing. It should be on its own.
“It should stand there, immaterial of who is in power, and these other things that we have, independence, we have all these things going on about FICAC, etcetera.”
He said institutions must be strong.
“You and I go, if the institution is solid, the impact will be positive for the people that follow us.
“We must not tinker with institutions.
“Some of the things that we have done, we get our cronies, failed candidates, and we put them into the civil service at the expense of those who have spent almost all their lives becoming professional civil servants.
“This is a sad thing.”
