The Suva Golden Oldies Rugby Trust will be holding its Prostate Cancer Awareness Tournament at the Albert Park in Suva today.

Suva Golden Oldies Rugby Club (SGORC) president Mason Smith said the tournament would be the culmination of the club’s month-long Movember campaign to raise awareness on prostate cancer.

Mr Smith said it was only natural that the SGORC, as a rugby club, use rugby as a platform to raise prostate cancer awareness and give back to society.

“It is our very own ‘balls and beards’ day,” he said.

He said funds raised through the tournament would be deposited into the Suva Golden Oldies Rugby Trust Incorporated account to be used for future prostate cancer awareness sessions and screenings organised by the club. Eight teams — Marist, Striders, Suva Oldies One, Suva Oldies Two, Nadi, Lautoka, Fijiana One and Fijiana Two — will play 11 games with kick-off for game one scheduled at 9.30am.

Pacific Laboratory Specialist will be conducting a prostate cancer screening clinic at Albert Park.
