MEMBERS of the Melanesian Spearhead Group Sports Committee have put pen to paper a memorandum of understanding that ensures sports cooperation.
Signed yesterday at the Bose Levu Vakaturaga Secretariat Building in Nasova, Suva, the member countries reached a common ground in supporting each other through their sporting ambitions.
“That was taking quite some time because each member country had to take their MOU to the various government systems. It has to go through cabinet, so it has been a long time coming but it was finally done.
“It was about the collaboration and cooperation in sports. Each country has its own individual end game. I think the MOU is about making sure that as each nation progresses, the entire MSG member countries move together,” Permanent Secretary – Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ratu Meli Nacuva stated.
For Fiji, the focus was on funding.
“It was in regard to how we provide funding to respective sporting events that will take place particularly the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup because that is the main event that happens in this MSG tournament,” said Ministry of Youth and Sports – Director of Sports Phillip Hereniko.
Apart from the MOU, the members also deliberated on the MSG Sports Charter that focused on the likely expansion of the Prime Ministers Cup with the inclusion of other sports apart from football.
