THE distraught mother of Dr Isireli Biumaitotoya is pleading with her son’s killer to come forward.
Mereani Bawa has been left devastated by reports of the alleged killing of her son last weekend, saying yesterday that she hoped “we find this person”.
Dr Biumaitotoya, a medical practitioner and gender diversity activist known on social media as “Leli Darling”, was found dead in his Nadi home on Sunday night.
Mrs Bawa said she was aware of her son’s lifestyle but they both understood where she stood in as far as the choices he made.
The grandmother of six added she would always remember her son as kind and loving.
“He was always ready to help,” she said.
“Whatever I needed, he would make sure I got it and he would always call to check if everything was Okay at home.
“The last time I spoke to him, he was arranging for my medicine when I became sick recently.
“I know how he lived his life, and I always told him where I stood when it came to that part of his life. But I did not know or hear that people wanted to hurt him.”
Mrs Bawa said her son did not mention to her that he was being threatened, and family members always told her not to read anything on social media.
Dr Biumaitotoya was 56. He is survived by his mother and four siblings.
