Mother demands justice after tragedy

A SIGATOKA mother is demanding urgent answers and accountability after her three-year-old son was killed in a road accident late last month — a tragedy she says has been compounded by delays in the legal process.

Mereseini Molly’s son, from Kulukulu, was crossing a road with his grandmother in Sigatoka Town when he was struck by a vehicle.

He was rushed to Sigatoka Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

In a social media post, Ms Molly described the family’s grief and frustration over what she called a lack of justice.

“Since the day my son lost his life, my family and I have been living with deep pain and grief,” she wrote.

“What has made this loss even more difficult is the lack of justice and accountability.

“Up to this day, no charges have been laid, and no clear action has been taken in relation to my son’s death.

“My son had his whole life ahead of him, and his death has left a permanent emptiness in our family.

“We deserve to know the truth about what happened and why no legal steps have been taken.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the investigation file has been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for independent legal advice, but no charges have been filed against the driver.
