Newcomer Ropate Morrel walked away $500 richer when he won the 4th Rankings Snooker Open Tournament on Sunday.
Morrel beat Pritesh Kumar 3-0 in the grand final to bag the victory and the winning prize money.
Morrel booked his ticket to the final after beating Yogen Prasad in a 3-2 victory while Kumar earned his spot with a 3-2 defeat of Farook Ali.
In the quarter-finals, Morrel won 3-0 over Jiten Prasad while Kumar won 3-0 over Sahil Prasad.
Farook Ali won 3-1 over Ravinesh Maharaj while Yogen Prasad beat defending champion Esala Talebula.
The tournament which took place from September 19-21 at the Merchant Club, at the corner of Butt St and MacArthur St in Suva, was sponsored by 786 Civil Contractors Pte Ltd.
It was organised by the Southern Division Billiards and Snooker Association.
This was the fourth ranking open tournament for the association after three were already held, where Talebula was the number one player.
The prizemoney for the winners included $500 for the winner, $300 for the runner-up, $100 for the semi-finalists and $50 for the quarter-finalists.
For interested participants, the entry fee into the competition was $30 per player with closing date for entries being September 16.
Lunch was also provided.
