POHNPEI – Federated States of Micronesia President Manny Mori has declared a state of emergency from January 22 to February 22 following a declaration from Pohnpei Governor John Ehsa regarding environmental threats from the grounded fishing vessel, Ping Da 7.
Ping Da 7 ran aground on the Pohnpei reef on December 11.
“The remains aground with a substantial amount of dangerous fuels, gas, chemicals remaining on board, posing a substantial environmental threat to the people of Pohnpei state and the Federated States of Micronesia,” the Presidential Declaration states.
