MARRIOTT International has confirmed the company is undertaking a significant investment in Fiji’s tourism infrastructure.
The company’s area general manager and Pacific vice president, Neeraj Chadha said this would include the full renovation of several properties and the opening of a new hotel in the first half of next year.
“We are now 9700 hotels, 143 countries, 30-plus brands and 260 million Marriott Bonvoy members,” he said.
He also detailed several major projects slated for completion in the first half of the year.
“Now, looking over the horizon, during first half of next year, we’ll see a fully renovated Sheraton Villas, the Westin opening, and, of course, a refurbished Sheraton Tokoriki with a restaurant as well as a fantastic jetty.
“It will have its own helipad and Prakash Pandey, the owner, was so inspired by a cellar and barrel that he’s now going to have a cellar and barrel in the middle of the ocean at the end of the jetty.”
Mr Chadha described the scope of the overall investment as substantial.
“Let them eventuate and that’s when we probably can quote the figure and say this is the kind of investment that I’ve seen but it’s extremely significant.
“The renovation of the Sheraton Villas, it’s a fully renovated hotel, then you’ve got investment for, of course, in the Western Fiji opening up next year, then you’ve got Sheraton Tokoriki, so there are a bunch of projects that we’ve done. We’ve been on that journey since the opening of the Sheraton on the renovation journey and investing in the products.”
Mr Chadha said these expansion plans were aimed at creating a superior offering for guests by combining quality facilities with excellent service.
