THE RT Xtreme Tae kwon do Summer Camp held at the Sanatan Hall in Rewa street, witnessed a remarkable increase in participation, with more than 50 students engaging in the four-day camp.
Head instructor Pranit Kumar and Grand Master Andy Rutten, who traveled all the way from Adelaide, led the camp and imparted their knowledge of the sport to the eager students of Fiji.
Kumar, in an interview, shared that this year marked the third edition of their summer camp, but it was the first time they extended the duration to four days, whereas previously, it had only run for two days.
“While starting our first summer camp last year, we had 20 student, I’m happy to say that this year we have doubled the number as we have over 50 participants, which is a great progress for our camp,” said Kumar.
“We are more focused on development, as most of the participants are in lower belts, so we are slowly growing, but it’s great to see the passion these kids have for the sport.
“We are combining both Modern and Traditional Tae kwon do teachings, the students benefitted greatly from the expertise of Grand Master Rutten, who played a crucial role in their learning,” he said.
Emphasising the importance of self-defense, Kumar highlighted Tae kwon do as a valuable skill that could be utilised in various scenarios.
The Summer camp will conclude today.
