More Fijians depart

One thousand, one hundred and fourteen Fijians left the country in December for a longer-term absence of one year or more, says the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.

Of this number, 681 will be away on a duration of one to five years while 433 departed for a duration of more than five years or permanently.

Two hundred and 22 Fijians emigrated out of the country in December with 59 going to Australia, 112 departing for New Zealand, 48 for the US and three to Canada.

The bureau said 885 Fijians left the country in December to work overseas with 405 going to Australia, 292 to New Zealand, 15 to the USA, for left for Canada, two for Europe, three for Japan, six left for China, 38 to Asian countries and 119 to Pacific countries.
