The Mokani rugby team have progressed to the semi-finals of the Tailevu rugby club competition after beating the Nuku rugby team 17-8 yesterday at the Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

Mokani dominated the game wining most of the possession and territory but failed to convert it on the score board.

Backline coach Josefa Matasau says the win keeps them on track to reclaim the Tailevu rugby trophy after an eight-year hiatus.

“During our preparations this week our goal was to win this game and progress to the semi-final. We are thankful for wining today and achieving our goal,” he said

“It’s been about eight plus years since we’ve won the Tailevu trophy and we are determined to win it again this year.

Matasau admitted the team made a lot of mistakes during the game and they will have to work on those areas before the semi-finals.

“Today we failed to execute our game plan properly, despite dominating possession we failed to reach Nuku’s tryline, if we had played according to our game plan we would have scored more points.” He explained.

Meanwhile in the other results in the tier 1 division Nadali beat Nakelo 22-11, in the tier 2 division Naqeledamu edged police 19-17 and Cautata defeated Namata 13-6. The rest of the games were still in progress when this edition went to press.
