TheMoce Cricket team managed to claim their first win in the Easter Cricket Championship after defeating Suva by one wicket at Albert Park yesterday.
Team skipper Tunoa Salusalu said the team was formed a week before the beginning of the tournament and did not have much time to prepare.
“Since most of the boys have been playing cricket for a long time, we didn’t need to go around looking for players and train them because many of the team have participated in this tournament over the years,” the 38-year-old said.
The men in yellow managed to reach the finals last year against their Lauan counterparts Lakeba but handed over the win to the men in blue because of unfavourable weather that prevented the two from battling it out.
“This year, we hope to reach the finals again, and we hope to achieve our goal as well.”
Salusalu said they were grateful for their supporters to turn up in numbers to cheer them on.
“It’s satisfying to see Moce supporters come out in numbers and support the players.”
As they continue into the competition, Salusalu said they would not be underestimating any teams in the competition and will treat every match like the final.
“We know that the competition will be very tough this year and we are not underestimating any teams in the competition.”
Moce plays the Cricket Fiji Development team at Albert Park tomorrow.
