Moce Secondary School is the new winner of the Fiji Secondary Schools Men’s Under-19 Cricket Tournament which ended at Albert Park yesterday.
They beat Cicia High School by 48 runs in a tantalising match that concluded the week-long cricket competition which began on Tuesday.
Team manager Teni Davui said the team was happy to have won against Cicia, in a match where captivating performances were displayed by both sides.
Davui said they were in disbelief at their progress throughout the competition.
“We still couldn’t believe that we’d make it this far, but we’re all happy that we’re able to win against Cicia this afternoon,” she said.
Moce Secondary beat Cicia by 47 runs in their opening match on Tuesday.
She added the support the team received from parents and guardians and the public in the past few days was outstanding.
“First, when we leave from the island, we couldn’t believe that it’ll be like this, the result will be full like this.”
“Just after last month before the team came back to Moce Island, we were just preparing for the tournament, for the U19 tournament and we only thought that the parents that are coming from the villages and us teachers will only be the supporters.”
“But today it was outstanding, the supporters were very outstanding,” she added.
She stated the team’s progress during the tournament was on another level.
Meanwhile, in the third place playoff, Suva Grammar School beat Ratu Finau Secondary by five wickets.
