It’s their first win over their Auckland rivals as they cement their spot in the top six at the expense of the defending champions.

Winger Kyren Taumoefolau was at his brilliant best as he crossed for a special hat-trick to inspire the victory.

It was a tense start to the game, as Patrick Pellegrini’s boot was the lone score of the first quarter.

This is where the game picked up as the Blues kept the pressure on via their rolling maul.

Eventually, the hosts faltered and gave away the penalty, with Tito Tuipulotu the man off to the bin for ten.

Older brother Patrick did what every older brother does to their youngest and capitalised on his mistake, scoring for a 14-6 lead.

This failed to halt Taumoefolau and Moana Pasifika as the winger crossed for a big try before the break to start the comeback, aided by Pellegrini’s boot as he kicked four penalties.

The Tongan winger cemented their lead after the break with a big leap for his second.

A yellow card to Pepesana Patafilo for a tackle on Anton Segner that forced him from the field gave the Blues life.

But Taumoefolau’s third try was the best of the lot and shut out any thoughts of a comeback, even after a try was denied for a foot in touch several phases before hooker Millennium Sanerivi scored.

The breakout collected the ball on the wing just inside the 22 before grubbering ahead and re-gathering to send the crowd wild.

Number eight Hoskins Sotutu scored late for the Blues to garner some hope of a late win.

However, it was Moana Pasifika’s night as a late pilfer from Ardie Savea sealed the win and likely his status as the Super Rugby Pacific MVP.

As a result, they jump the Blues into sixth place, given they have six wins to the Blues’ five.

The Blues are on a bye next weekend, with Moana Pasifika set to face the Chiefs.

Moana Pasifika finish their year against the Hurricanes, whilst the Blues host the NSW Waratahs.
