Police have expressed concern over an apparent increase in missing persons reports in recent weeks, urging the public to take greater responsibility for informing loved ones of their whereabouts.
While comparative statistics are not yet available, police said such reports continue to cause distress to families and place pressure on law enforcement resources.
Spokesperson Wame Bautolu said many cases are not linked to criminal activity but stem from poor communication within families and communities.
“People have a habit of going places without informing their loved ones,” he said, describing it as a worrying trend.
Police have reminded the public that simple communication can prevent unnecessary panic and allow authorities to focus on genuine emergencies.
