The Suva Magistrate’s Court has adjourned the trial of former lawyer Shazran Abdul Lateef to September, after the prosecution revealed that the physical and documentary exhibits in the case could not be located.
Lateef is on trial for allegedly possessing 1.8 grams of methamphetamine and 4.0 grams of marijuana on December 10, 2019.
It was scheduled to begin yesterday, with his lawyer Joji Cakau ready to proceed.
However, police prosecutors were unable to proceed with the case before Acting Chief Magistrate Josaia Waqaivolavola.
The prosecution is now awaiting the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ decision to proceed with the case.
The case has been adjourned to September 8.
Lateef is serving a three year and eight-month jail term for unlawful possession of marijuana and methamphetamine.
