A FATHER of a boy missing for 11 days was left stunned on live TV when he was told his son had been hiding in his basement.
When Charlie Bothuell, 12, of Detroit went missing, his father Charles Bothuell IV called police to help him find his son.
The FBI even stepped in and searched everywhere they thought the boy could be, including the basement of their family home.
So Charlie’s father was shocked when he first heard of his son’s location while conducting a live TV interview with anchor Nancy Grace.
Now more questions are being raised about how the boy could have possibly been found alive and well while barricaded in the family home.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig told CNN affiliate WXYZ it was a first.
“I’ve never seen anything quite like this,” he said.
“We found him barricaded in the basement, behind boxes and a large five-gallon drum. There’s no way he could have erected this makeshift area of concealment.”
When Mr Bothuell found out his boy was alive he was visibly upset, looking dazed and bewildered, breathing hard and clutching at his chest, Fox 8 WGHP reports.
Mr Bothuell said he had no idea how his son could have turned up in his house. “I checked my basement,” he said.
