Minor damage to infrastructure

Municipal councils in the Western Division have reported minimal infrastructural damage despite the heavy downpour in recent days.

Lautoka City Council acting CEO Taitusi Rasoki said clogged drains during the rainy weather is a common occurrence.

Mr Rasoki said council workers are working to ensure all clogged drains are cleared.

Rakiraki Town Council CEO Peni Duaniwai said operations within the town have returned to normal.

“There’s not much damage, maybe just some issues with the drainage system.

“We do expect rainfall again tonight, so we are just assessing the situation and what we will have to inform the people of Rakiraki.”

Tavua Town Council CEO Sireli Korovulavula said there was minimal flooding near the Shop N Save Supermarket carpark in Tavua, which is adjacent to the Nasivi River.

“Qalela Rd and the loop road were washed away. We are still able to cross, but it needs to be repaired,” he said.

Ba Town Council special administrator Moshim Khan said there was heavy rainfall but no flooding.

Nadi Town Council special administrator Saliceni Raiwalui said floodwaters in Nadi rose briefly but have since receded.

Attempts to get a comment from Sigatoka Town Council special administrator Adish Naidu were unsuccessful.

Fiji Roads Authority CEO Apisai Ketenalagi said all roads are now open.
