The Ministry of Fisheries has invited expressions of interest from registered and reputable companies seeking approval to export sea cucumber, as part of efforts to regulate and manage the sector sustainably.
In a statement, the ministry said interested companies must submit detailed proposals addressing a range of requirements.
These include a cover letter of intention, a company profile outlining past business engagement, and full compliance with standard regulatory requirements such as company registration, share structure, FRCS tax compliance, FNPF compliance, and a HACCP-certified processing and export facility.
Applicants are also required to provide confirmation of an overseas buyer or market access, demonstrate financial capability through the most recent audited financial statements, and submit a proposal for undertaking controlled harvesting and beche-de-mer (BDM) export.
The ministry said proposals must clearly identify the villages or communities from which sea cucumber will be purchased, outline funding arrangements, and provide evidence of engagement with communities involved in harvesting activities.
The Ministry of Fisheries said only complete submissions that meet all requirements will be considered, as it works to ensure responsible harvesting practices and equitable community participation in the sea cucumber industry.
