The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is leading efforts to combat plastic pollution.
This was shared by its minister Mosese Bulitavu at the National Capacity Building for Plastic Pollution in the Pacific Island Countries workshop in Nadi.
He said embedded in the National Development Plan 2025 to 2029 was a vision to position Fiji as a global sustainability leader.
“This includes strengthening legislation, incentivising sustainable practices, fostering engagement, and exploring non-plastic substitutes,” Mr Bulitavu said.
“Just two weeks ago, we launched the National Anti-Litter Campaign, which essentially is aimed at reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices.
“However, we recognise that these efforts must be complemented by regional collaboration and by building a dividend of skills.
“We must empower ourselves to be the architects of our own sustainable futures.”
