Update: 7:47PM FIJI’S Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa has completed her seven-day tour of the Lau group visiting villagers in six islands.
Mrs Vuniwaqa visited Moala, Totoya, Oneata, Lakeba, Nayau and Vanuabalavu.
A Government statement issued this evening stated the minister opened several women’s canteen projects in those islands worth $20,000.
It stated the minister also declared Totoya island and Tubou in Lakeba a Zero Tolerance Violence Free Community – a first in the Lau group.
Villagers in the six islands visited also got the opportunity to have access to services such as registration of births and deaths, marriage registration, legal aid services and social welfare.
