Double Olympics gold medallist Jerry Tuwai will be receiving the $33,000 promised to him by the FijiFirst administration to build his house.

Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru said Tuwai would receive the payment before the men’s national 7s side head to France for the Olympics Games.

“He was promised $33,000 to build his house, and we were supposed to pay him once he was ready to do so,” Saukuru said.

“I know people have been asking if he has received the money, and we know that he is ready to build so we will be paying him.”

Tuwai, arguably one of the best 7s players in the world, was named World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year in 2019.

“So, from the ministry, we are currently working on the payment of $33,000.

“This will be done early before the team heads for the Olympics in Paris.”

In 2015, he was also named Player of the Final at the Dubai 7s before being selected as the standout player at the Las Vegas 7s final that same year.
