Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, Alitia Bainivalu, has released details of her official overseas trips between April 2024 and April 2025.
She said sharing the information was her commitment to ensuring every government expenditure delivers value to Fijians.
“Every forum, every meeting, every seat at the table was an opportunity to bring something back for the people of Fiji,” she said,
“From seaweed farming to sustainable forestry, from climate action to market access, these missions focused on finding real solutions for our farmers, fishers, and communities.”
She highlighted that eight of the nine trips were fully funded by international hosts or partners, minimising costs to Fiji’s taxpayers.
The total cost for the trips amounted to $77,030.28, with $58,000 incurred in a trip to Switzerland funded by the government through Parliament’s budget.
The Minister emphasised that these trips were critical for securing investment, promoting sustainable practices, and expanding market access for Fiji’s fisheries and forestry sectors.
“I will always ensure that any travel I undertake serves a clear national purpose,” she said.
