Families sheltering in evacuation centres following recent flooding received much-needed relief yesterday as Government assistance reached affected communities in the Western Division.
Mosese Bulitavu, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, joined emergency teams to personally deliver relief supplies to flood-affected families at four evacuation centres in Ba and Lautoka.
Minister Bulitavu and response teams visited Nasolo Village Hall and Nailaga Village Hall in Ba, as well as Lovu Sangam Primary School and Sun Black Apartment in Lautoka, where families have been sheltering since the floods.
Families were provided with essential Non-Food Items (NFIs) to support their immediate needs as they begin the recovery process and prepare to return home.
Minister Bulitavu thanked families for following official advisories and relocating to evacuation centres to ensure their safety. He encouraged those affected to make full use of the supplies provided as they work towards rebuilding their homes and livelihoods.
The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management also acknowledged the support of the Governments of Australia and New Zealand for assisting with the provision of NFIs, which will help families recover in the aftermath of the floods.
