ISSUES are best resolved through communication and dialogue, says Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua.
Responding to the initiative taken by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, on steps it will take to repair relationships within the military and the Fijian people, Mr Tikoduadua said the commander’s decision was ‘commendable’.
“In one word it is commendable, and I support him in that effort, and I wish him every success as commander in what is the most important area of human development,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“He recognises that is a step that’s needed to be made for the military, and I thank him for that.
“Issues are best resolved through communication and dialogue.
That is what the commander wants to do. “He is entrusted under the Constitution the wellbeing of our people.
This is why for him to do that, and I commend him for that.”
Last month, Maj-Gen Kalouniwai declared the military’s efforts to mend the ‘deep pain’ within the military by engaging soldiers and their families who were involved in the military mutiny of Queen Elizabeth Barracks in 2000.
He said the reconciliation efforts would be carried out until November 2 on the 24th anniversary of the 2000 mutiny.
