The Ministry informed the Committee the mining sector has proven to be a vital contributor to the national economy.

The seven Special Mining Leases generated a total revenue of $116,231,108.50 during the reporting period,” said the Ministry.

“This substantial figure underscores the importance of the mining industry as a driver of economic growth, supporting government initiatives and public services through royalties and associated fiscal benefits.”

The Ministry added currently, one mining site in Nawailevu, previously used for bauxite extraction, is undergoing rehabilitation.

“As part of the approved rehabilitation plan, the area has been reforested with a pine plantation, providing long-term benefits for landowners.”
