Momentum is building for the Swire Shipping Fiji Drua team as they prepare for another tough and exciting Super Rugby Pacific season.
Forwards coach Chris Gibbs is confident of the progress the team has made so far during pre-season and believes everyone is on track for the 2026 season.
“It’s been a really good shift here, and I think right through the organisation you can see it, you can feel it that we are moving in the right direction,” he said.
“There’s still a lot to be done but we are in a pretty good space.”
While last season’s disappointing finish still haunts the team, this has fuelled motivation for the players to step up during the preseason.
“I think the reflection part for us was around making sure we turn up to this preseason heading into 2026 with a better mindset and attitude,” Gibbs explained.
“And that’s kind of what we’ve been focusing on over the last six or seven weeks.”
Gibbs admits physicality will need to step up this season for the team to be competitive and avoid another disappointing finish.
“We’ve been combining our rugby skill work, but we’ve understood that there’s a lot more physical stuff that we need to be getting out of our boys,” Gibbs said.
“I’ve been putting it in and we’re getting good results.”
The Drua kick off their 2026 season at their Lautoka fortress – Churchill Park on February 14 against Moana Pasifika.
