MAHATMA Gandhi Memorial High School (MGM) is trying to find its best form ahead of the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association’s Cola-Cola Games.

School principal Sanjay Raman said they would field 60 athletes in the Suva Zone Two competition and hopefully some of their athletes could qualify for the Coca-Cola Games.

He said during the year, their students had been training with their special coaches.

“This year since we still have this pandemic, we are adhering to the COVID-19 restrictions and that is why we have only asked our students to come to the ANZ Stadium and participate,” he said.

“It is a school-based program where we allow only students to come. This year we have not allowed parents or guardians or outsiders to come in because we cannot be taking risks.

“Last year we took part in the zone where a few of our athletes qualified to take part in the Coca-Cola Games, but unfortunately they did not participate this year.

“This year those students are still in school and they are doing their training. We have our vice-principal who has arranged a special coach who will look after our athletes for their training after school hours and during the weekend.”

Raman said they would focus on the long distance and field events to bag gold medals. The results of yesterday’s games will be announced during their prefects induction ceremony tomorrow.
